Young Lefty Adds Intrigue to Baltimore's Rotation Decisions
Orioles Face Tough Decision After Povich Shines in 5-2 Loss to Pirates
The Baltimore Orioles might not have secured the win on Saturday, but left-handed pitcher Cade Povich delivered a standout performance in a 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite the defeat, the Orioles continue to show promise as they build team chemistry and evaluate talent during Spring Training.
Povich Shines on the Mound
Cade Povich showcased his potential as a rotation contender, throwing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six. The young lefty demonstrated impressive command, retiring the final eight batters he faced with precision.
Povich's spring numbers are hard to ignore. Across two games, he has thrown 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing only 1 hit, while striking out 7 and walking just 1. His 0.00 ERA reflects the consistency and poise he's displayed on the mound.

Catcher Adley Rutschman was equally impressed with Povich's performance. “He was dotting his fastball and throwing his offspeed in two-strike counts for competitive misses there to get some strikeouts. I was really impressed by him today. Just looked like he's had a really good demeanor on the mound.”
Battle of Young Arms
The game also featured a promising performance from Pirates' Paul Skenes, the reigning NL Rookie of the Year. Skenes allowed one run over three innings, striking out four and showcasing his new cutter and two-seam fastball. The duel between Povich and Skenes offered a glimpse into the future of both teams' pitching rotations.
