Orioles Dominate 2025 MLB Draft Day 1

Ike Irish, Caden Bodine, Wehiwa Aloy highlight an All Star Orioles MLB Draft Haul

The Orioles entered the 2025 MLB Draft on a mission to add valuable talent to an organization that has promoted a bunch of top prospects to the MLB level.

With 4 picks in the first round, thanks to a Bryan Baker trade to the Tampa Bay Rays for the 37th pick, the Orioles were in business.

They walked away on day 1 with 7 potential new players in the organization, and with a record bonus draft pool of $19,144,500 available to sign their picks they look solid.

For the seventh time in seven drafts that Mike Elias has led, the Orioles have selected a position player with their number one pick.

Ike Irish (OF/C), Auburn University - Round 1, Pick 19

Ike Irish played catcher in college at Auburn University his freshman and sophomore year until he was injured by being hit in the back fracturing his scapula his junior season, and returned as an outfielder his junior year.

The Orioles are targeting his plus power and solid contact, and it remains to be seen what position he plays.  Entering his junior year he was competing for the title of best catcher in college baseball, but many scouts are wary of his defensive ability to play catcher.

Corner outfield could be where he ends up to focus on developing his bat.

  • On-Base Percentage: .469

  • Slugging Percentage: .710

Caden Bodine (C), Coastal Carolina University - Round 1, Pick 30

Caden Bodine won the 2024 Buster Posey award for best college catcher.  He was a part of a team that made it to the 2024 College World Series Finals.

As a switch hitting catcher, the Orioles are getting positional depth for the minor leagues, as well as a bat that could develop to become above average in the majors.  Bodine hits the ball well, but wishes he had a bit more power.

Fielding wise, he’s got excellent instincts, but lacks a bit of athleticism.

Caden Bodine’s 2025 College Stats

  • Batting Average: .318

  • On-Base Percentage: .454
