Brandon Hyde’s Big Beltway Series Test
After another sweep by the Twins, the 15-27 Baltimore Orioles have tough questions to answer
Beltway Series: Brandon Hyde’s Red Hot Seat
State of the 2025 Orioles
The Orioles are not a good baseball team right now. They stink.
The standings show it, and the stats show it too. The Orioles rank near the bottom in nearly every statistical category across the board. They can’t hit, they can’t field, and they can’t pitch.
Yet somehow there is still hope with the immense amount of talent on the roster, and the ability to maximize it under Orioles skipper Brandon Hyde. Hyde had the team above expectations the past few years, and has led the Orioles to the best AL record over the past two seasons.
Now at 15-27, the Baltimore Orioles cannot be happy with the start. The on the field product has been really bad.
There have been a ton of injuries, but the buck has to stop somewhere, and unfortunately Hyde might be the fall guy.
Rivalry Weekend Showdown
The Baltimore Orioles will host the Washington Nationals in the MLB Rivalry Weekend. A weekend focused on interleague matchups based on geographical proximity. There will be a ton of great matchups like the Beltway Series, and the Subway Series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets.
The Orioles played the Nationals in April. They came out of the series barely avoiding the sweep. In the rubber match, Cade Povich delivered a masterclass in a 2-1 Orioles win.
Cade Povich vs MacKenzie Gore Round 2
Povich will get the ball in the first game of the series. The young right handed has had an up and down start to the year. The Orioles will hope he’ll be able to recapture some of the magic he displayed in his first matchup against the Nationals.
Gore on the other side has been phenomenal at times himself, but the Orioles have had success hitting left handed pitchers. Look for a righty heavy lineup in this matchup. Gore has a tendency to strike out a lot of guys, but he throws hard, and gets hit hard.
Expect the ball to be flying on a hot and humid day, and the Gore heater adding a bit more pop.
